AProvided it can meet the braking effi ciencies of 40 per cent service and 15 per cent secondary (which can be the handbrake) it can operate up to a legal maximum of 20 tons for unplated vehicles until it comes up for its annual test, assuming the maximum axle loads are not exceeded.
Annual testing is due to start on January 1 and when your six-wheeler is so tested it will be plated for a maximum gross weight arrived at by the Ministry of Transport engineers on the basis of figures provided by Bedford or York.
