'lE National Passenger Trade Group eers and committee of the TGWU have drawn up proposals called the "Busman's Charter". The proposals: • Basic wage rates to be a minimum of £15 per week.
• A standard week based on 40 hours and five days, with a daily ceiling of eight hours.
• greater sharing of savings from the operation of one-man vehicles.
• Spells in charge of the vehicle not to exceed 44 hours without a minimum meal relief of 30 minutes.
• Three weeks' paid holiday annually, valued on the average earnings.
• An overtime agreement governing total hours both daily and weekly.
• The acceptance that all employees should be members of the appropriate trade union.
• Spreadovers to be limited to 12 hours duration with payment throughout.
The charter is described in an article in the current issue of the TGWU Record written by Alan Thomson, national secretary of the group.
Mr. Thomson claims there is little doubt that resistance to more efficient operation is based on the failure to establish adequate payments for total hours at work.
