Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

AWEST Country haulage business experi

enced maintenance problems when it was "overtaken by circumstances" at its Pucklechurch (Nr. Bristol) depot. The opening of the Severn Bridge considerably increased its turnover and added to its problems.

This was said by Mr. William Henry Reece, managing director of Fry's Transport Ltd., in Bristol this week at a section 178 inquiry before Western LA Mr. J. R. C. Samuel-Gibbon.

Traffic examiner Mr. William James Hicks, said the company had no preventive system of maintenance at all, but steps had been taken to implement a satisfactory system. Mr. Hicks said GV9s issued were of a comparatively minor

nature.

Mr: Reece told the LA that planning approval was being sought to build a garage large enough to take three vehicles at one time, equipped with inspection pits, greasing and ancillary equipment. Steps had been taken to ensure that vehicles were inspected monthly.

Mr. Thomas Corps, for Fry's Transport, considered the LA was entitled to bear in mind the excellent record of the operator, which should stand it in good stead.

Mr. Samuel-Gibbon decided to take no action in the matter, but stressed to Mr. Reece that if things went wrong he would not be able to be lenient again.
