A PPEALING• against a decision of tA the South-Eastern Lice sing Authority, Wincanton Transport and Engineering Co., Ltd., Wincanton, has been allowed four more licences by the Appeal Tribunal for vehicles operating in two businesses acquired by the company during the war.
Twelve vehicles had been operated from Bentley and 10 from Chichester, and had been used under defence permits mainly for milk haulage. The South-Eastern Licensing Authority had granted licences for a total of 14, seven at each base.
According to counsel for the Railway and Road Haulage Executives, F. A, Stockdale. only 60 per cent, of the concern's work in each district had been milk haulage, the remainder having been general work. Only 53 per cent. of the revenue had been drawn from the carriage of milk. It was to be expected that during the flush period for milk, general haulage would be set aside to enable the milk to be carried. In fact the concern transported more general goods during that period than during the rest of the year.
The Appeal Tribunal ordered the Licensing Authority to vary the decision and to grant licences for eight vehicles at Chichester and 10 at Bentley.
