The website, www.truckinform. eu, which will initially he free of charge, can display private truck parking areas across the Continent by way of a Goo& map, through which operators can reserve a space. They are then emailed and sent a text with details of the site.

"There are plenty of truck sto ps in Belgium and Holland but at some sites there is hardly anyone there because drivers would rather park near a garage and take a risk." *The new owners of the lorry park at Alconbury, Cambridgeshire, say overnight parking should be available by the end of March.

The 10-acre site closed in August 2007 and was bought by property developer Wrenbridge. However, it was forced to sell the land again when it struggled to win planning permission to develop it for commercial purposes. The new owners have now repaved the parking area and are installing a barrier system. George Heys, who also owns Heys Group, says a self-service cafe will be built within six months.
