Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Last Friday's one-day strike by Port of Calais staff to protest at the abolition of duty-free is expected to cost LA hauliers half-a-million pounds.

During the strike the newly merged P&O Siena Line rerouted its ferries via Zeebrugge. This adds nearly three hours to crossing times and 100km to road journeys, says the Freight Transport Association.

This is the fourth major dis ruption at Calais in the past 18 months," it points out. "The increased distance and journey times result in severe problems for freight delivery schedules."

The strike was called with just 24 hours notice and P&O Stena Line was forced to cancel all 30 of its scheduled crossings between 02:30hrs Friday and 03:00hrs Saturday.

It is not known if there will he further strikes.
