THE FORMER head of a management consultancy takes over next week as chairman of the Road Transport Industry Training Board.

John Armstrong is the 61-year old former managing director of Urwick, Orr and Partners, who Lakes over as RTITB chairman on April 1, for three years. Mr Armstrong retired 18 months ago after 22 years with Urwick Orr, 10 of them as managing director. He was also chairman of Urwick International. He was president of the Institute of Management Consultants in 1976/77 and was chairman of the Management Consultants Association in 1980.

He told CM his move to the RTITB will take him into familiar territory, although he has not had any permanent connection with a board before.

He succeeds Fred Lloyd, who has been chairman since September 1978. Mr Lloyd moved to the Board after his retirement as director general of West Midlands PTE, a post he held from that bus undertaking's inception in 1969. Before that, he was a senior manager With London Transport. Mr Lloyd is 70 this year.
