He suggested that one company should acquire all the stage-carriage services in Stoke-on-Trent and Newcastle-under-Lyme. This move might pave the way to municipal control.

Col. Redman surmised that a successful move on these lines could be made, becaPuse most of the kcal operators had expressed their willingness to part with their services. The Commissioners would use their best efforts to assist any plan in the public interest-and they invited the co-operation of municipalities and operators.

Col. Redman was presumably suggesting • that the Pbtteries Motor Traction Co.., Ltd., the biggest operator in the area, should endeavour to buy up the local t.age services, A wholesale merger on these lines would approximately double the P.M.T. fleet, which already stands at about 250 vehicles.
