• The enforcement section of the Metropolitan traffic area has asked for Quarter Sessions trial of a driver who is alleged to have made false statements in his application for a Class one hgv licence. Although the case could have been dealt with summarily by the magistrates' court the prosecution, represented by Mr K. Schiemann, asked to have two charges dealt with by judge and jury at Quarter Sessions.

Mr J. P. W. Rixon, of Roxwell Rd, London, W12, employed by Dodds Transport (Acton) Ltd, was remanded OD bail by Acton magistrates last week in his own recognizance of ,E50 to Middlesex area Quarter Sessions charged with: Intent to defraud by uttering a certain forged document purporting to be a certificate of driving experience, contrary to Section 6 (1) of the Forgery Act, 1913; also, knowingly making a false statement for the grant of a licence under the Road Traffic, Act 1960, contrary to Section 235 (1) of that Act.

Both offences are alleged to have been committed on two separate dates, February 2 1970 and March 24 1970. Mr Schiemann later told me that the Metropolitan LA, Mr D. I. R. Muir, and the enforcement section, intended to show that they will not tolerate complacency by hgv licence applicants who attempt to gain their licences by giving information which the enforcement section believes to be false.

A spokesman for the enforcement section said that prompt action was being taken on at least eight other applications thought to be irregular.
