Brief Particulars of a Luxurious Vehicle Built for Use Between a Popular Coastal Town and the Metropolis.

A PARTICULARLY well-appointed .1-t saloon passenger vehicle has just been built for Mr. Southan, of Eastbourne, for daily operation between Eastbourne and London. The basis of the vehicle is the 35-50 h.p. Associated Daimler forward-control chassis and the luxurious body with which it is equipped was built by Mansfields, Ltd., of Eastbourne. In a measure the ye bide is quite typical of many that are being used on moderately long runs, but the character of its interior equipment is somewhat different from some of these machines, and is, obviously, intended to approach private car standards in the degree of comfort which it promotes.

The body is built to accommodate 24 passengers and the seats are of a particularly comfortable pattern. On the near side they are arranged in single file, but on the off side the seats are each built for two people; a gangway separates the two Tows. The seats are of the armchair pattern and the material used for upholstery is green furniture hide. They have built into their IN.ea a folding glasstopped table, and below each is a footrest. The backs of the seats and the lining panels are covered with green plush. A green hair carpet is used on the floor between each seat, this being provided in place of fibre mats.

The interior of the roof and the rear quarterPanels are covered with green leather cloth to conform with the general decorative scheme. A series of parcel racks is disposed at the cant-rail level on both sides, at which point nine semi-rose-type electric lamps are fitted. The windows at the side -are made to be lowered between the body panels, and above certain of them glass louvres are provided. Draw-back curtains of a cloth which harmonizes with the colour scheme adopted for the interior can be drawn across the side windows.

There is quite a number of useful fittings in the interior, these including BecIawat oxidized ash-trays which are disposed behind each seat, oval mirrors, and an eight-day clock.

A luggage carrier is fitted to the roof, and this is reached by way of a collapsable ladder ; a khaki cover is used to protect the luggage carried at this point. A locker is fitted in the skirt of the body where it is intended to accommodate petrol and oil supplies. Adequate precautions have been taken against the risk of fire, and, apart from an extinguisher which is fitted in the driver's cab, there is a second appliance in the interior of the body.

So far as the exterior of the body is concerned, the skirt and upper pillars are finished in ivory and the waist moulding and wings in sea green, whilst the roof is white and the wheels and chassis parts blackā€”a combination which strikes a distinctly pleasing note.
