Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

READ WITH interest your response to a reader's question "I frequently carry high-value loads and am worried about theft. What measures can! take?( CM 12 July).

In addition to the suggestions already made in CM, I would like to mention some other simple measures that might be considered: • Provide two-way communications (mobile phone) to enable the driver to keep in touch with base and vice versa and the police.

• Consider the use of effective vehicle management and tracking systems.

• Security systems should deal with all security requirements for the operation.

• Once the basic security precautions are in place, the operation will qualify to join the ACP° Vulnerable Load card scheme.Alert drivers to vulnerable loads and provide them with the appropriate notice (card). If stopped by a police officer the driver may then hold the card to the cab window and follow the agreed procedure: • :, Advise drivers to keep doors and windows closed and locked, and carry out any conversation through a closed window.

:If the police officer asks the driver to drive to the nearest police station (safe place), the driver must report the request to control.

O. Drivers should maintain contact with control at all times.

4:Drivers mustn't open or get out of the vehicle until they have reached the protection of a police station (safe place).

• Tell the police that details of the driver and the vehicle may be verified by reference to the firm operating the vehicle.

While the Vulnerable Load card may not stop determined criminals, it might enable the driver to contact control, keep it informed of their location and enable the vehicle to be constantly monitored/tracked with an effective response initiated if required.
