• The Freight Transport Association has joined forces with the Private Wagon Federation, the organisation representing owners, operators, builders and leasers of private rail wagons, in a second attempt to save BR's lossmaking Speedlink services.
The PWF's members have put a lot of investment into Speedlink," says Jack Welsh, the MA's director of international transport and distribution. "They are anxious, as are our members, to see the service continue in some form."
The joint approach, to be put to BR's Rai[freight Distribution division at a meeting in August or September, will urge the company to consider having direct consultation with private operators.
