the environmental lobby is pushing hard to get freight transferred from road to rail. Imagine my horror when confronted by this diesel train by Paddington station, spewing noxious fumes like a steamer of bygone days.
The Hawk's trainspotting chums report that such sights are not uncommon on BR's non-electrified tracks. Inter City trains can frequently be seen belching diesel fumes as they wait for 25 minutes or more at Paddington station.
With all the environmental legislation facing hauliers isn't it time the Department of Transport ensures British Rail cleans up its act?
