I own a 1949 Leyland Hippo, now happily retired and restored, but this vehicle covered an estimated 1,300,000 miles while in service. It was bought new by W & R Jacob & Co, Liverpool, and had the same regular driver for 26 years. Today I would have no hesitation in loading her up, drawbar trailer and all, and setting off anywhere. Given time, she would get there.

I often wonder how many modern vehicles will still be running in 37 years' time. Not many I suspect.
