In the past, these courses have given exemption from all but one of the final examination papers of the Chartered Institute of Transport. Now, for the first time, the University of London has modified the syllabus with the result that total exemption is granted. This means that successfully completing the university courses will satisfy the educational requirements for full CIT membership. (Five years' relevant work experience is still needed.) There are three part-time courses; Introduction to Transport Studies; Certificate in Transport; and Diploma in Transport. They are run in the early afternoon, late afternoon and evening. For further information contact the university's Extra-Mural Department (Cheryl Croydon or Janine Bagoin) on 01-636 8000, Extensions 3859/3885.
