• Tiphook, the newly-floated container and trailer rental company which includes Central Trailer Rental, increased its pre-tax profit by 67% to £2.77 million in 1985/86.
The £2.77 million was earned on a £25 million total revenue, while for 1984/85 £1.65 million pre-tax profit was made on £14 million turnover.
Central Trailer Rental, described by Tiphook's deputy chairman Eric Goodwin as a "substantial" part of the company's business, increased the number of its trailers over the period from 1,632 to 3,020.
In a further gearing up for more international business, Central Trailer subsidiaries have been set up in Rotterdam and Denmark.
Central Trailer opened its own 200-trailer depot in Rotterdam in April, and bought Danish trailer company, PNO Trailers in February.
These moves represents the company's aim to get more involved with international business — with or without the Channel Tunnel, Goodwin says.
In addition to going public during the past financial year, the company has strengthened its management in order to continue the growth.
