making a new low-cost 40mm towing eye designated E101 for non-braked trailers up to 750kg gross weight.
The unit is made from cast malleable iron and simply bolts to the trailer chassis. This is a far less expensive arrangement than welding a forged eye to the chassis and is safer than the dangerous and weakening practice of flame cutting a hole in the front plate.
Legislation in 1982 restricted manufacture of new non-braked trailers to 750kg gross weight and below.
