TWO firms running services to Athens were caught up in this week's Middle East war. Biss Bros of Bishop's Stort ford and National Travel, operators of regular services from London, were on the road when the trouble in Cyprus began.
Roth companies contacted their drivers by telex daily in order to look after the safety of their passengers and to ensure that their runs were, if possible, uninterrupted.
• By the time that ceasefire had been arranged on Monday, Biss Bros had a party making for the GreekYugoslav border on the return leg of the journey, and was in touch with both the coach driver and the Greek tourist office. Despite the fact that the ceasefire did not become effective until Tuesday and that, the GreekYugoslav border was reported closed on Monday, the party managed to get through.
National Travel's coach was on the way to Greece when the trouble started and it delayed its .schedule slightly on Monday till the Yugoslav border was open.
Both companies are heavily booked for the Athens run for the rest of the season.
