15 resolutions for conference

THE Labour Party has received 15 resolutions concerning the future of the road transport industry for its annual conference; and outright nationalisation of all road transport is to be demanded.

The conference could be cancelled if the Prime Minister calls an October general election but Labour is going ahead with the preparations of the agenda.

Sidcup Labour Party calls for the "complete nationalisation of all road transport in order to provide an integrated road and rail transport system." Several resolutions urge positive action as a matter of urgency to direct freight traffic off the roads and on to the railways and canals.

Hillsborough, Sheffield Party calls for legislation tocompel the transport of bulk raw materials; dangerous chemicals and large con signments of goods to factories and docks by rail in order to reduce road congestion and -conserve fuel.

Nearly all the resolutions so far submitted emphasize the need for priority to be given to improving public transport passenger services.
