The length to be opened runs from A50 junction near Lymm in North Cheshire, to join the southern terminal of the Preston by-pass, on A6 at Timber Bridge.

There will be junctions with the existing road system at the two terminal points and also with A57 east of Warrington, A49 at Winwick. A49 and A580 at Haydock, A58 at Ashton-inMakerfield, A49 at Wigan, 85239 at Shevington Moor and A49 at Leyland.

Meanwhile. today, Friday, a further 11-mile stretch of M2, the Medway Motorway, is being opened. It runs from the Stock bury junction to the FavershamAshford road (A251).
