The C&W Commercial website keeps its focus on the stock, as Webwatch discovers

Homepage

West Midlands-based dealer C&W Commercials has a logically laid-out website with product search options taking prime position on the left of the homepage. The main navigation menu runs along the top and the site search box is over in the top right.

In our tests the site had a quickerthan-average loading time: useful if you’re using a slow connection or a mobile device, and it worked equally well for us on all the common browsers.

Product search

The best way to access the product search is probably to use the search panel on the homepage. Select a make from the drop-down list, tap in a model or body type of your choice, and click ‘Search’. The site will display all items meeting your criteria.

Below the search button is an ‘all vehicles’ option; by selecting this you can browse through the listings (10 to a page).

An alternative way to find what you’re looking for is to click on ‘stock list’ in the main menu, then choose one of four categories: 7.5-tonner, rigid, specialist, or tractor unit.

Finally, you could use the site search box in the top right of any page – but when we tried this, it displayed all vehicles in stock no matter what term we searched on.

However you search the stock list, the site will display the same key information for each of your results: thumbnail photo, make, model, year, weight and price (although price is likely to be POA).

Click on any thumbnail to view a product information page with a full-spec plus half a dozen or so additional photos. These show the truck from a range of interior and exterior angles, and can be viewed as a pop-up gallery.

At this stage in the process you can also download a PDF datasheet of the item, which contains the same information as the website but is more easily printed.

We’re not sure

✖ Site search box was not working when we visited

Finally, the ‘enquire about this vehicle’ button takes you through to an online enquiry form for that particular item. When we visited the site, Daf tractor units seemed to dominate, with a tidy Daf FTR XF105.460 on a 10-plate taking our eye.
