• MAN will fit the Eaton 5series 16-speed synchromesh gearbox as standard on all UK F2000 models when the range arrives in May. The company will continue to offer ZF synchro boxes and the Eaton Twin Splitter constant-mesh box with SAMT as an option.
• Michelin has launched the Classic van tyre in three different sizes. It has a wide square-shouldered four-rib tread pattern which is said to combine good performance on wet and greasy roads with resistance to stone trapping. The "P" speed rated lyre will be available in 185R14, 195R14 and 175R1 6 sizes.
• Continental has introduced a 60-series tyre which can carry the same load as a 1 2R 22.5 or 2 9 5/80R 22.5. Fitted to a semi-trailer, the tyre would reduce the load deck height by 50mm compared with a 295/80R 22.5 lyre, and 67mm compared with a 12R 22.5 tyre. This could offer up to 2.28m of extra volume on a 13.6m semi-trailer.
