Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Northern Counties has invested over £500,000 in a paint and final-finishing shop at its Wigan coachbuilding premises.

• London Regional Traitport is planning to introduce an experimental midibus service between Putney Pier and Chelsea Harbour. The 'Fulham Hoppa will be serviced by 25-seaters and will operate Mondays to Saturdays.

• ATL-subsidiary SUT is to expand its routes in Sheffield with 11 new vehicles and three cross-city routes which will compete with South Yorkshire Transport and some independents. SUT already operates subsidised minibus routes in Sheffield, and has services in Rotherham and Barnsley. 1=1 Routemasters have entered service in Sheffield for Rotherham and District, running between the bus station and Dore on a daytime frequency of 45 minutes. Proprietor Glynn Pegg, a Sheffield Polytechnic lecturer, has been hiring out his own Routemasters to other companies for evaluation purposes for the past two years. As well as the daytime service he has registered a route from Sheffield to Bakewell which operates on Friday and Saturday evenings. Rotherham and District will use the depot of Sheaf Line.

• Buyers of Scottish Bus Group companies must be banned from selling any of the firm's properties for at least five years to avoid asset stripping, says Labour MP Brian Wilson (Cunningham North). He warns that without this condition many of the 11 operations may be sold below market price. Wilson is also pushing for an amendment to the Scottish Transport Bill to encourage management and employee buyouts. The Government is offering to help finance the preparation of such bids, but Wilson wants it to offer discounts of at least 10% for management employee buyouts.
