• Chertsey-based Staines Metal Products has acquired the first Portoblast Magnus, an all-British invention, to be installed in the UK. The only other sales so far have been in West Germany, but Power Blast, of Southern Trade Centre, Camberley, Surrey, believes a lot of interest may be generated in the autotrade industry.
SMP decided to abandon its permanent shotblast plant and opt for a portable blast room. The system, Vent-Cycle, allows ventilating air to be circulated within the blast room complex, without the need to draw in air from the factory or discharge it.
Power Blast says shotblasting strips, off rust and scale, leaving the surface covered by pits and burrs, forming tiny interstices to give a perfect bonding surface. "A modern, two-part epoxy barrier paint will last almost for ever," it says.
