ROAD haulage will become more efficient if heavier lorries ar permitted, says The Chartered Institute of Transport.
It has told the Armitage Inquiry that it feels that roa improvements would meet most environmental objections t the heavy lorry, and it adds that Britain cannot ignore the FE countries' acceptance of heavier vehicles.
But it adds that it really represents all modes of transport, an that it is ultimately for the road haulage industry to convinc Armitage that heavier lorries are needed.
