[HE 500th National Carriers Contract Services lorry was landed over to International Superstores last week at a :eremony in London.
International, which )perates seven NC vehicles 'rom its central distribution iepot at Northampton, dis.ributes non-food items to its line superstores. It plans to lave 18 stores by 1981, and lopes to have 40 within five Tears.
The latest vehicle, which )rings the International fleet ip to the average national size if NC's contract-hire fleets, is Volvo F7 with a 40ft Scamnell box trailer and a Ratcliff :ail-lift.
NC sales and marketing director Derrick Clarke said that the International Superstores contract represents a significant proportion of the £12m revenue derived annually by Contract Services.
He told reporters that he envisages a growth in contract-hire business, as the pressures of inflation and legislation make life harder for own account operators.
The International company is an offshoot of the International Stores food chain which handles its own distribution.
