WAGES are outstripping tui nover in the road haulage it dustry, according to the stud of 60 road hauliers betwee 1975 and 1977.
The report, from Inter Company Comparison: shows that in the three yea period employees' pay it creased by 42.4 per cent compared with a 35.4 per cer turnover. The increase in tit nover was roughly the same a the rise in inflation.
Wages and salaries showe big differences between con panies. P and 0 Roadway pays best, with an averag yearly wage of E4164 in 1976 77, more than £1,000 more pE year than the average.
The general impressio given by the report is that th industry is slowly recoverin from its disastrous low point i 1975/76. The average pre-ta profit margin of the con panies studied rose from 3. per cent in 1975/76 to 4.7 pE cent the following year.
