Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

LATER this year DAF is to offer the all synchromesh S-130 gearbox from ZF as an alternative to the 13-speed constantmesh Fuller for the top-of-the range 2800 series.

The S-130 is an eight-speed range-change design with a splitter giving 16 forward speeds (like certain Volvo models), Where the ZF differs, however, is that the conventional H-change speed pattern is not superimposed.

Two H-patterns are still used but they are side-by-side with a spring-loaded detent between the two ranges. This change pattern is one which has been used for many years by Berliet with their own gearbox. Ironically the French company uses a ZF box, which has a conventional superimposed shift sequence, as an alternative.

With the 8-130, a switch on the gear-lever operates the splitter. DAF is exhibiting a display unit at Brussels showing the new gearbox coupled to DKS engine. This caused some confusion on opening day, however, as the gear lever was fitted with the latest three-position switch from Fuller.
