THE GREATER London Council has a £239m transport budget for the next financial year.

£137 million of this is revenue expenditure, which is a similar amount to last year's figure, but capital investment is up by about £22 million to £102 million. London Transport has bee allocated £82m capital exper diture. This includes E13m fc 350 new buses and more tha £8m for modernising or exter ding bus garages.

Highway expenditur during the next financial yea will be £19m which is £4m u on last year. This figure i made up of £16m for roa improvements and £3m fo traffic management and pat king.

Commenting on the high way expenditure plans, GL( Planning and Communica dons Policy Committee leade Shelagh Roberts said, "A last we are able to start worl on reversing the previous de cline of London's roads sys tern. This is the first stage o our 15 year plan to provid, London with a satisfactor: road system."
