ENTRY of Spain, Portugal and Greece into the Common Market is unlikely to affect Community policy on road passenger transport,inland waterways or railways, thinks Transport Secretary William Rodgers. No major problems arising from the proposed enlargement of the EEC are foreseen, he said in the Commons, adding that his Department would continue to watch the implications of the present negotiations closely. The Minister pointed out that on freight the United Kingdom already had bilateral road haulage agreements with all three applicant countries.
Against the background of the accession negotiations, Spain and Portugal had agreed with us reciprocal exemption from commercial vehicle taxation, and Greece was in the process of ratifying a similar agreement.
