• After a Mouldsworth, Lanes, rubber company failed to appear under Section 69 in Liverpool recently, the North Western LA, Mr C. R. Hodgson, stated that if the company, Manley Garage and Rubber Co Ltd of Mouldsworth, failed to appear at another inquiry to be held in the near future its licence would be entirely revoked.
It was stated that the company, which had been notified of the hearing, had been summoned following a DoE fleet inspection in October 1972.
Mr J. Bober, the DoE vehicle examiner who carried out the inspection, told Mr Hodgson that he had inspected two of the three vehicles operated by the company. Although he found only minor defects on one of these vehicles he discovered 12 on the second, several of which were of a dangerous nature.
The examiner went on to tell the LA that all three vehicles were usually parked outside the firm's premises — an old mill where old tyres were stored — and that no records relating to maintenance examination were kept. He added that he was given the impression that the vehicles were only taken to a garage when they had been damaged.
