• Certain categories of heavy goods vehicle drivers are, for the first time, to be admitted to Institute of Advanced Motorists membership without passing the advanced driving test. To gain admission drivers will have to be qualified in one of three groups: (1) Holders of a hgv instructor's certificate issued by the Road Transport Industry Training Board; (2) Army instructors who have passed the Army's own hgv course for instructors; (3) Royal Air Force hgv instructors with a similar qualification.
In all three cases it is considered that the standard of driving called for automatically qualifies the candidate as an advanced motorist.
