The Motor Vehicles (Construction and se) Regulations 1973, which consolidate e existing regulations, were laid before xliament on Tuesday by Mr John Peyton, Mister for Transport Industries, and will me into operation on February 13.
The significant change effected by the gulations is the switch from imperial metric for all units of measurement except eed. The metric "equivalents" have been anded up or down as appropriate to the arest 5 or lOrrun, or 10kg. This ensures U. vehicles conforming to the previous penal units do not contravene the metric tuirements.
The Regulations include all the amendnts made since the previous consolidation 1969, principally relating to burst-proof r latches and hinges, collapsible steering umns, metal fuel tanks, the prohibition of fitting to new vehicles of musical and ti-tone horns, radio interference supssion, control of emissions from engines, er to weight ratio, axle spacings relevant laden weight and additional weight 'ctions.
