Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A Guy "Toast-rack" Type Coach with Standard-size Wheels. Facilitating the Exit of Bus Passengers in Emergencies.

/AND of the most popular types of klvehicle for promenade service and for sightseeing in fine weather is the " toast-rack." coach, a number of which has been supplied by Guy Motors, Ltd., of Wolverhampton. The original model consisted of what amounted to a standard chassis except for the wheels, which were made much smaller than those in general use, and thus served the two purposes of reducing the loading height by a considerable amount and lowering the gear ratio, although experience with these vehicles has shown

that, 6xcept for a few areas of employment, this latter feature is not an essential one, and may even in some cases be a disadvantage.

The " toast-rack " vehicle, which we illustrate and which has just been produced in the Guy works, consists of a special type of body mounted on a standard low-frame-level chassis equipped with wheels shod with 36-in. by 6-in. tyres, twins being fitted at the rear, so that this vehicle can be operated at normal speeds without overrunning the engine or causing undue vibration. The gearing in this model is quite normal, although lower ratios can be substi tuted, if desired by users. • It will be seen that the seating arrangement is simple, but effective, and is designed for 33 persons, excluding the driver. The penultimate row of seats back on to the row before it, thus easily overcoming the difficulty of wheel-arch projection and providing what amounts to. a sociable compartment_ Our other illustration shows the latest form of Guy emergency exit, which is of the type in which the opening of the door is controlled by the driver from his seat, but in the new system a drop step, which is normally held securely by a catch on the door, is freed and forced down by a spring immediately the door is opened—an operation which can also be performed by pulling on au external handle at the back.
