Shepherd's Bush Celebrates.

The employes of the L.G.O. Co.'s, Shepherd's Bush Garage, are to hold their second annual dinner at the Clarendon Hotel, Notting Hill, on Saturday, the 28th inst. Mr. J. Symes, the superintendent, is to preside.

A New Coastal Service.

The South Coast Saloon Autobus Co. is the name of an undertaking on behalf of which the authorities at several South Coast watering places have been approached with a view to the issuing of licences. The present address of those responsible for this venture is 199, Piccadilly.

Poplar Approves Splashguards.

The General Purposes Committee of Poplar B.C. has considered certain expert reports on the results of the affixing of splashguards to the nearside wheels of the omnibuses of the Metropolitan Steam Omnibus Co.'s vehicles plying between Hammersmith and Piccadilly. The committee is satisfied that the provision of these guards has greatly minimized side-splashing by the omnibuses, and a communication is to be sent to the Chief Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police urging the enforcement of the use of these or equally-effective splashguards on all motor omnibuses plying within the Metropolitan Police District.

New Garage Buildings.

The Buildings Committee of the London County Council has consented to the erection of an addition to the eastern block at the motorbus garage, Bowles Road, and Herman Road, Camberwell, whereby such eastern block will exceed 250,000 cubic feet in extent, as shown by the plans submitted with the application of Mr. J. E. Ashby.

The same Committee has further consented to the erection' upon a site on the western side of Lot's Road, Chelsea, next to the southern side of King's Road, of a building to exceed in extent 250,000 cubic feet to be used only for the purposes of a motorbus garage, as shown by the plans and particulars submitted with the application from Mr. J. Dewar on behalf of the Metropolitan Steam Omnibus Co., Ltd.

Why Not Motorbuses ?

Brighton Town Council has resolved to oppose the Bill that is being promoted by the Brighton and Hove Omnibus Co., to obtain powers to run trackless-trolley cars between Worthing and Brighton. The Council is determined to oppose a scheme for tramways over the same route. It is not felt that expenditure on such tiamway extension, even if it were undertaken by the municipality, would be justified.

London's Oldest Tube.

The statement of accounts of the City and South London Railway Co., for the half-year ending 31st December, 1910, is to hand. The directors are to recommend that a dividend of 11 per cent, for the half-year be paid on the ordinary stock. We are interested to note that the cost of power generation and maintenance of central plant for the halfyear is returned at £13,370, whilst the similar charge for the lifts is £5,339. The company has 1.35 carriages and 52 locomotives. The fifty-third ordinal.y general meeting of the company will be held at 71, Finsbury Pavement, on the last day of

this month at noon. It is possible that tile chairman will he asked to justify the dangerous overcrowding which regularly takes place in this company's small carriages and on their connecting conductors' platforms.

Mortlake Makes Merry. Presentation to a Superintendent.

On Friday of last week, the 20th inst., the first annual dinner and smoking concert of the Mortlake staff of the L.G.O. Co., Ltd., was held at the Shepherd's Bush Hotel. Mr. W. T. Johnston, the district engineer, occupied the chair, and he was supported by his colleagues from Dalston and Cricklewood, Messrs. H. Darby and 1). Duff, Jun., respectively, and by several garage superintendents and foremen. The gathering was made the occasion of the presentation of a gold watch to Mr. H. Kishere, former foreman driver at Mortlake, in recognition of his excellent work in the past, and of his promotion to the position of superintendent at the Putney depot. Speeches were made by the Chairman and by Messrs. P. Holt, J. Morgan, and B. Brooks, and Messrs. D. J. P. Wray and Arthur W. Windsor replied to the toast of " The Visitors." Out'tending features of a. capital musical programme were the " Mrs. Perkins " of Driver Evans, and a clever extemporised song by Mr. E. Holt, in which lie introduced a verse dealing with THE COMMERCIAL MOTOR. Mr. B. Brooks proved himself to be an able organizer, and Mr. J. Abbott kept the fun going during the musical portions of the evening's festivities. The Mortlake staff is to be congratulated in the organization of a successful function.
