• Transport Development Group is to sell its Cox plant hire business following poor results in its hire TDG's overall operating profit rose 4.2% in 1997 to £35m, but hire-division profits fell from £4.9m in 1996 to £3.4m last year. Two years ago Cox, and the recently sold Vehicle Rental, were TDG's most profitable sectors. Group chief executive Alan Cole says TDG will now concentrate exclusively on logistics: directors Paul Byrne and Gerry Brown have resigned from the slimmed down board.
