Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Ammanford-based David Jones was ordered to pay £200 appeal costs when he failed to appear at Worcester Crown Court. Jones had appealed against his conviction by the Leominster magistrates for a front-axle overload for which he was fined £345. Judge Geddes dismissed his appeal.

Safety issue

• liridgend-based Mark Davies, whose licence was suspended indefinitely last September, has now had it revoked. South Wales TC John Mervyn Pugh said Davies was unwell and he would have accepted the surrender of the licence. He felt that it was not in the interests of either Davies or public safety to allow the licence to continue.

No increase

• Drivers' hours and tachograph offences have led Scottish TC Michael Betts to cut the licence held by Aberdeen-based East Coast Roadways from 12 vehicles and 14 trailers to 10 vehicles and 14 trailers. Betts refused a bid for an additional five vehicles and five trailers, saying he would be unlikely to grant any increase for a year.

Watch out

• Though taking no action against the licence of Nairnbased Long Vehicles, Scottish TC Michael Betts has formally warned the company about its future maintenance standards. The company appeared before the TC at an Aberdeen disciplinary inquiry.
