Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Hoyer (UK) has backed down over its demands on drivers' working hours which sparked a health and safety row last month (CM 29 Jan-4 Feb).

The dispute erupted after lloyer insisted that drivers at depots in Hythe, Avonmouth and Manchester should comply with harsh working conditions including working up to IS hours a day and being on call all the time.

After drivers voted to work to rule—a move organised by the Transport & General Workers Union—the company backed down on every point.

Drivers have now agreed to a package of measures including: • Working an agreed maximum 11-and-a-quarter-hour day; • The working week will be from Mon-Fri—before there was no set working week; • There will be a rota put in place for weekend working— previously drivers were always on call.

TGWU co-ordinating officer John Moulsdale says that if the company fails to begin putting the measures in place by tomorrow (27 February) then some form of nominal industrial action will begin again.
