• The need for more stringent noise regulations for heavy lorries is foreshadowed in the first report of the Royal Commission on environmental pollution published on Tuesday.
The Commission said that although vehicle noise was already 'subject to legal limitation, some of the regulations did not seem to be frequently enforced. Regulations introduced last April, if firmly applied, should prevent a worsening of traffic noise, but woOld not do much to satisfy public demand for less noise.
