BRITAIN'S request for deferment of the drivers hours require ment contained in EEC regulation 543/69 was turned down b the Commission in Brussels last week.
As a result Dr John Gilbert, Minister for Transport, is t issue guidance to the road transport industry very shortly i view of the problems created by the situation.
Answering a question from Mr Leslie Huckfield, MP fa Nuneaton, last Thursday Dr Gilbert said that the COMMIE sioners had agreed to give further consideration to Britain' request in the New Year.
British opposition to the increase in axle weights above th 10 ton limit was supported by Germany and this too is to b given further consideration by the Commission.
The introduction of tachographs under regulation 1463/7 was not discussed.
