Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Belfast is to be the second municipal bus operator in Great Britain to Introduce a token system, following a decision by the city council earlier this month. The new system is expected to be in operation by next February or March, and will be accompanied by a new two-tier fare system.

Passengers who have bought tokens in advance from one of the 27 centres provided will be able to travel on the city's buses for either 6d or 1s. depending on the length of the journey. Travellers without tokens will have to pay an extra 1d or 2d per journey.

In an article earlier this year, describing progress with the use of tokens in Sunderland (CM July 25), it was reported that officials from the Belfast undertaking had examined the operation of the Sunderland system. No doubt the success of the latter undertaking's tokens/zonal fares system has encouraged Belfast to go ahead on similar lines.
