Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Four Seddon Pennine IV chassis with Plaxton Panorama Elite 11-metre bodies have been placed in service by Hanworth Acorn Coaches, of Bedfont, Middlesex (CM, November 14). They mark an important breakthrough into this market by the bus division of Seddon Motors Ltd.

First introduced two years ago, the Pennine IV chassis features a front-mounted Perkins engine, which is located low in the frame, making the chassis virtually an underfloorengined model. The Hanworth Acorn examples are fitted with vertical Perkins 6.354, 5.8-litre in-line engines, producing 120 bhp at 2,800 rpm. However, the Perkins V8.510 vee engine, developing 170 bhp at 2,800 rpm has been made an optional alternative.

The Pennine IV chassis is also now available with four standard wheelbases: I 2ft, 14ft, 16ft and 18ft 6in. The straight-topped frame employed on this model is an advantage to luxury coach manufacturers. and permits the provision of luggage lockers beneath the floor at the sides of the body, as well as a large rear locker. An ENV five-speed synchromesh gearbox is a standard fitting on this chassis.

In several ways the new model is a competitor to the corresponding Bedford and Ford models, and is listed among the highfloor chassis models available in CM's guide of coachbuilders for the British bus and coach market (CM December 5), With a fuel tank capacity of 65 gallons, it is claimed that the Pennine IV can be operated from London to Scotland and back without the need for refuelling.
