• by Sally Nash Long waiting times for new Volvo trucks are forcing operators to turn to the nearly new left-hand drive market, which is experiencing buoyant demand.
Enterprising East Anglian Volvo dealer Dufffelds has decided to expand that side of its business as a result of the larger than usual number of enquiries it has received for used left-hand drive trucks recently.
Buyers of certain new RHD models are currently waiting up to six months, according to a Volvo sales engineer who wishes to remain anonymous. The closure of the manufacturer's factory in Irvine, Scotland, and summer shutdown at Gothenburg have contributed to the production delays, he adds. Before the
summer waiting times were just over four months.
A spokesman for Volvo says: "We wouldn't quote lead times but they are longer than we would like at the moment due to buoyant demand throughout Western Europe."
But last week Duffields was advertising 16 left-hand drive trucks including FH12 and FH16 Globetrotters—some with just 21 or 30km on the clock.
