• Turnover in the truck rental sector is continuing to surge: Milton Keynes-based Dawsongroup has reported an 80% increase in half-year profits, from £1.97m to £3.55m.
The company expects the rental boom to last into 1995 because it will take that long for hauliers to regain enough confidence to start buying new trucks.
Managing director Michael Williams says: "We believe the signing of contracts and buying of new vehicles lags up to 18
months behind the rental sector."
Davvsongroup is updating its fleet with 200 new trucks; older vehicles will be sold on to the used market which Williams expects to remain "buoyant" for the rest of the year.
Fleet usage at Dawson group is running at 75%, compared to 75% at Tiphook and 80% at BRS.
Rental revenues rose by 10% due to increased rates as the fleet improvements continued to include more reefers.
