THE Department of
Transport has accepted the £267,389 tender of Amey Roadstone Construction for the building of an extension to the Newport Pagnell service area lorry park.
Work will take about six months.
The DTp has also accepted a tender — of £7,364,675 — from Amey Roadstone for the construction of the second section of the M II Cambridge Western By-pass between an interchange with the A10 at Hauxton, and one with the A604 and the Cambridge Northern By-pass at Girton.
Work is expected to start slowly and will take about two years to complete. Work has already begun on the section of the by-pass between Great Chesterford and the interchange with the Al 0 at Hauxton.
A tender of £3,086,545 from Mears Construction Ltd for the construction of a new dual carriageway from the interchange, Junction 13, of M4 and A34 at Chieveley north of Newbury, Berks, northwards to join the southern end of the existing East Isley by-pass has been accepted.
Work will start soon and take two years.
A grant has been authorised to Humberside County Council to cover the whole cost of the bridgeworks and approach viaducts of a new steel swing bridge to be built over the River Hull at Kingston-upon-Hull.
Work is expected to start shortly and will take about three years.
The new bridge, to be known as South Bridge, will carry dual carriageways, each about 36ft wide, with two 10ft footways and a 10ft central reserve.
The DTp is to spend £500,000 over the next three years overhauling Boothferry Bridge, which carries the A614 over the River Ouse in North Humberside.
The headroom over the roadway will be raised to allow high-sided vehicles to be diverted from the nearby M62 Ouse Bridge on to the Boothferry Bridge when strong winds make driving conditions difficult.
The DTp has accepted the £312,232 tender of Tarmac Roadstone Holdings for resurfacing works on the A63 Elloughton By-pass, North Humberside.
The work, expected to take about 12 weeks, will be divided into two phases each lasting about six weeks.
During the first phase, the westbound carriageway of the A63 will be closed from east of Welton Interchange to east of South Cave Interchange Overbridge including the westbound entry slip road of Welton Interchange and the westbound exit slip road of South Cave Interchange.
During the second phase, the eastbound carriageway will be closed from west of South Cave Interchange Overbridge to east of Welton Interchange Overbridge including the eastbound entry slip road at South Cave Interchange and the eastbound exit slip road at Welton Interchange.
The DTp has accepted a £399,907 tender from Shepherd Hill and Co for strengthening the A628 Nine Arches Bridge, Woodhead, Derbyshire.
Work will start soon and take about six months to complete and traffic restrictions, now in force, will continue until the work is finished.
In addition, the bridge will be closed for short periods from time to time.
