WTH one abstention, operators employed
by John Wainwright Ltd. quarries in Somerset last week voted unanimously in support of action which is being taken in the courts over deductions from payments.
It is understood that, with the backing of the Mendip Tipper Operators Committee, a test case is being brought igin-st John Wainwright Ltd. concerning the five per cent deductions from monthly payments made to a haulier of long standing in the area.
Recent licensing hearings have spotlighted the practice of making deductions; it is believed that payment within 14 days of the end of the month in which work was done was liable for the five per cent reduction, as an alternative to payment in full after some three months.
