Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

GIANT tyres of all types, including remoulds, may be used on commercial vehicles up to a maximum sustained speed of 45 m.p.h., it is stated in a leaflet issued this week by the Tyre Manufacturers' Conference. Entitled "Speed and Commercial and Public Service Vehicle Tyres," the leaflet, which may be obtained free of charge, gives details for motorway operation.

For instance, in the sustained speed range 45-60 m.p.h., only standard first tread giant tyres should he fitted. For speeds in excess of 60 m.p.h. special tyres should be used after consultation with manufacturers. Passenger transport tyres may be used for sustained speeds up to 45 m.p.h., it is stated, but for runs not exceeding 20 miles they may be used at speeds up to 60 m.p.h. with an increased inflation pressure of 10 p.s.i. For sustained speeds in the range 45-60 m.p.h. it is recommended that standard tread giant tyres should be employed. Consultation with manufacturers is advised when speeds of more than 60 m.p.h. are likely to be encountered.

The recommendations apply to tyres in good condition, inflated to specified normal pressures and operating within their load capacity.
