Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Oreight Sentinel 7-tonners recently put into service by the Western Region of British Railways, four have been fitted with light-alloy bodies. Two of these bodies have detachable, hinged, high sides, and the other two are of the platform type.

The platform bodies have angle-section raves, the body width being such that the largest containers can be accommodated on the floor between the raves.

The other four vehicles have platforms of timber and steel which weigh about 5 cwt. more than the lightalloy ones.

The chassis have five-speed overdrive gearboxes, and all the vehicles are equipped for towing 6-ton trailers.

The light-alloy bodies 'form a departure for British Railways and their behaviour in service is to be. closely watched. They arc to be used for the collection and delivery of full-load traffic and for zonal haulage and delivery trunk services, a railway representative told The Conimercial Motor.

NICE WILL WELCOME BRITISH COMPETITORS

" A HEARTY welcome" has been PA extended to British operators to enter in next year's international coach rally at Nice, which will be held from May 9-11.

In a message to British operators, the president of the rally organizing committee, Mr. A. de Laage, says:

British coaches are held in high regard on the Continent, and they deserve to be hetter represented in international competitions.' He adds that the prizes ha ‘. e an important publicity value.

The 1956 event will include, in addition to technical and manoeuvrability tests and a concours d'elegance, a competition between hotels and restaurants accommodating passengers in the competing vehicles.

A N electrical engine-speed governor operating on the eddy-current principle is being developed in this country. It can be mounted on injection pumps. The eddy-current principle is used in many speedometers and engine-test dynamometers. A governor of this type should be simple, relatively compact and robust.

Westinghouse shareholders on Monday approved an increase in capital from £21m. to £31-m.
