THREE transport undertakings which I operate trolleybuses on a joint network over a large area of South Lancashire are to replace trolleybuses by motorbuses. Theys are the South Lancashire Transport Co., and the transport departments of Bolton and St. Helens.
The first routes to he converted, probably within two years, will be those between Leigh and Bolton and Atherton and St. -Helens, The last trollcybus service to go will be that between Atherton and Farnworth, via Swinton.
It will probably be some years before the conversion is completed, as many of the trolleybuses run by S.L.T. were purchased as late as 1948 and still have a useful life of some eight or nine years. The company's depots at Atherton, Swinton and Platt Bridge will be affected, as trolleybuses are operated from each.
Bolton Corporation own only four trolleybuses, and these are operated for the corporation by S.L.T. on the Hutton Lane service.
