IN 1977, SUTTONS Transport Group founder Alf Sutton painted the Union flag on the front of a truck to mark the Queen’s Silver Jubilee. Now, to celebrate Her Majesty’s Diamond Jubilee, the Widnes-based company has liveried one of its new Volvo tractor units in red, white and blue.
MD Andrew Palmer says: “This seemed the perfect opportunity for us to bring back the Union flag to mark such a momentous occasion. It was a feature on the fleet in the 1980s and was a distinctive sight on Britain’s roads.” Last month, S&R Smith & Son, based in West Thurrock, unveiled its own Jubilee livery for its flagship Daf XF.
